THIS IS AN ADVANCED TUTORIAL AS THERE ARE NO SCREEN SHOTS

  To complete this tutorial you will need:  

An image of your choice

PSP 9 - you may be able to use other versions but I have not tested it

Toadies available from here

Filter: VDL Snowflakes available from here

Xero Sparkles available from here

Unlike the other xero plugins, this one uses a configuration file called default.spk, which must be present in the same directory as the filter itself. To install the plugin, copy both sparkles.8bf and default.spk to you host's plugins directory. If the filter reports that the configuration file is missing when you run it, please make sure that the default.spk file is in the same directory!

You need to be fairly experienced as there are no screen shots with this tutorial - although you should find it easy to follow.

1. Take your image and reduce it to a workable size if needed

2. Add a 1pixel black border

3. Press Ctrl C to copy the image - you won't see anything happen this will just save the copy of the image to the clipboard.

4. Add a border of 20

5. Select the border and paste your image in to your selection

6.  Effects Filter Toadies Blastem - use whatever settings you like that look good with your image

7. Drop Shadow 2,  2,  85,  10

8. Repeat using -2, -2,  85,  10

9. Add a border of 40

10. Select the border and paste your image in to your selection

11. Whilst still selected save your selection to disk ("Load/Save Selection", "Save Selection to Disk")- call it snow 1Deselect

12. Add a border of 20

13. Select the border and paste your image in to your selection (this is the one you have saved to your clipboard earlier!)

14. Effects Filter Toadies Blastem - use whatever settings you like that look good with your image

15. Drop Shadow 2 2 85 10

16. Repeat using -2 -2 85 10

17. Add a border of 40

18. Select the border and paste your image in to your selection

19. Now duplicate your layer twice so that you have three copies

20. Your last selection should still be active.

21. Effects Xero Sparkles (make sure you have installed it correctly see the notes above under the filter link)

22. Now this again is all down to preference - how much sparkle/snow you want but go with what you please

23. Effects VD Adrenalin Snowflakes - again - go with what you please - we are trying to get a balance between snow and sparkles………

24. Don't like what you have done - then press undo and re do it till you like it!! You could be there all day - I was!!

25. DO NOT DESLECT

26. Now turn off the visibility on this layer and make sure that your middle layer is active

27. Effects Xero Sparkles - change your density by about 10

28. again all down to personal preference

29. Effects VD Adrenalin Snowflakes - change the random speed

30. DO NOT DESLECT

31. Now turn off the visibility on this layer and make sure that your bottom layer is active

32. Effects Xero Sparkles - change your density by about 10

33. again all down to personal preference

34. Effects VD Adrenalin Snowflakes - change the random speed

35. Now……. You can deselect!!!

36. Staying on this bottom layer - Load selection from disk (Selections", "Load/Save Selection" "Load Selection from Disk"  and find snow 1…….. oops it's in the wrong place - never mind we can sort that

37. Selection - Edit Selection then grab your move tool and move the now red selection to cover the middle section. When you are happy - go to Selection and click on Edit selection again to remove the red and put some little running ants around the inner part of the image

38. Contract Selection - 2 - ok

39. Effects Xero Sparkles - change your density by about 10

40. again all down to personal preference

41. Effects VD Adrenalin Snowflakes - change the random speed

42. Now turn off the visibility on this layer and make sure that your middle layer is now active and you have turned on the visibility

43. Effects Xero Sparkles - change your density by about 10

44. again all down to personal preference

45. Effects VD Adrenalin Snowflakes - change the random speed

46. Now turn off the visibility on this layer and make sure that your top layer is now active and you have turned on the visibility

47. On your top layer - select all - contract by 2 and invert - fill with black. DO NOT DESELECT - turn off visability go down to your middle layer and make it active, fill the selection around the edge with black, turn visibility off, go down to bottom layer and make it active, fill the selection around the edge with black.

48. Deselect.

49. Resize if your image is too big

50. Make sure all your layers are visible

51. File save as - ANIMATION SHOP (*.psp) and call it whatever you wish

52. Launch Animation shop open your image and play your image and enjoy the vision of snowy sparkles….. then if you like it and want to keep it - save it as a gif image.
